I didn't sleep until 07:00, but woke up around 14:00, so I haven't been as bad as I usually am for sleeping in.
I applied for some jobs, and looked into some potential apprenticeships that I'm thinking of getting into.
Later that day, I decided to cook me and my brother a pasta.
Because I have literally nothing else to write about besides working through a few chapters, and earning a few trophies, on Uncharted 2, here is a little cooking lesson on how to make a delicious tuna and vegetable pasta for two... Or just vegetable if you're vegetarian! :)
You Will Need:
- 1 Sharp Knife
- 1 Chopping Board
- 1 Large Saucepan
- 1 Wooden Spoon
- 1 Frying Pan
- 1 Spatular
- 1 Sift
- 1 Cheese Grater
Ingredients:
- Pasta (Fusilli or Tubes are the beat for getting your fork into)
- Pasta Sauce (Tomato)
- Half a Red Pepper
- Half a Green or Yellow Pepper
- 3 Large Mushrooms
- Half a Courgette
- Half an Onion (or half white, and half red)
- (Half a tin on sweet corn, if you like)
- Some Cooking Oil (vegetable
- 1 Tin of Tuna
- Cheese
- Black Pepper
What To Do:
- First, you grab your pasta, and add about half the contents of the bag into the saucepan.
- Then, you fill the saucepan with water, so the water is just covering the top of the pasta, and put it on the job, full blast for 15-20minutes.
- In the 15-20 minutes that you are waiting for your pasta to cook, you will need to chop your vegetables. So, grab your knife and chopping board, and slice away. When chopping your veg, you want to make sure that all the different vegetables that you choose to use are cut roughly to the same size as each other, (about half a square inch). This is to ensure that all the vegetable are cooked and ready to serve at the same one, avoiding smaller pieces burning quicker, and larger pieces not being cooked enough.
- Once you have chopped all of your vegetable to equal size, add a drop of oil to your frying pan. (Be careful not to use too much, as this will create a lot of steam, and cause burning). Swirl the oil that you have in your pan in a circular motion, so the oil spreads to the rest of the untouched pan, and sweep your chopped veg from your chopping board, into the pan, with your knife.
- With all your veg now chopped, the pasta is probably done. Grab the saucepan, and the sifts, and empty the pasta into the sift. Rinse with hot water from the tap, to get rid of any excess starch, then put the pasta back into the saucepan.
- Now that the veg is in the pan, put your pan on the hob, on a medium-high setting, and wait for the vegetables to make a distinctive sizzling sound. Let it fizzle for a while, and whilst it's sizzling, add any herbs you like to the veg if you fancy. I like to use general mixed herbs, or chilli flakes for a bit of spice!
- After you've added the herbs, rotate the vegetables in the middle of the pan, to the outer side, and vice versa, with the veg on the outer side. This ensures all vegetables are cooked equally, and that nothing gets burnt. Repeat this process until the veg is a lovely silky, golden brown colour.
- Your veg and pasta are both done, so now it's time to add all of it together! Put your veg in with the pasta, and empty the jar of pasta sauce in with it, along with the sweetcorn and the tuna. Before adding your tuna or sweetcorn, be sure to drain any liquid from the tin, down the sink, by holding the lid of the tin in place, and letting the liquid drain out. Its important to do this so your pasta doesn't get too slushy.
- And mix! Mix all of your veg, tuna, and pasta together, whilst over the hob, until it all looks like an even colour. Keep mixing the pasta, until it is steaming, and bubbling, even after you keep mixing it. Then it's ready to serve!
- Serve the pasta, onto the dish, grate as much cheese as you want on top of it, add the finishing touch of black pepper, and you're done!
I clearly have too much time on my hands at the moment...
